Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide dancewear and dance classes at no cost to underprivileged kids. In addition, Wear then Share aims to mentor the kids through dance and to teach life lessons, such as persistence, patience, and pride.
Wear then Share has two branches:
1) Dancewear Initiative - The organization collects new to gently used dancewear and donates to underprivileged children.
2) Dance Outreach Program - Volunteers teach free dance classes to underserved youth.
Dancewear initiative:
Five permanent collection bins are located in studios, dance stores, and churches around Atlanta. Wear then Share donates to four main organizations: Moving in the Spirit, Boys and Girls Club (BGC),
Mary Hall Freedom House (MHFH), and Foster Care Support Foundation. To date over 4,000 dance items (valued at $21,850) have been donated.
Dance Outreach Program:
High school dancers have taught dance classes to hundreds of underprivileged kids at the Boys and Girls Club (BGC) and the Mary Hall Freedom House (MHFH).
• Boys and Girls Club (BGC) - Five years ago, Amanda Harris created a dance program at BGC. High school volunteers teach a weekly jazz class to 25 students (ages' 6-9). For the past three years, the class has performed at The Westminster Schools' Spring Dance Concert. Harris created a permanent outreach dance program at Westminster, through which student volunteers get involved with Wear then Share.
• Mary Hall Freedom House (MHFH) - Amanda Harris also created a dance club (Freedom Dancers) and a costume closet at MHFH, a residential homeless shelter for women and their children. For two years, volunteers have taught the dance group several week-long workshops. Harris choreographs and arranges for the dancers to perform at the annual Christmas Celebration.
